UTM PRIME CATTLE

A fair entry of prime cattle met a firm trade in line with recent weeks for good conformation cattle.

Second quality and non-Farm Assured cattle are in demand but at a lower price.

Top price per kilo was 184p for a Limousin x heifer from a quality entry from Messrs. F.T. & F.M. Johns of Cury purchased by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

Limousin x steers from the same farm saw a pair sell at 180p/kg to David King of Exeter with the heaviest at 707kg also achieving top value of £1,273.

A slightly increased entry of cull cows met a trade in line with other regional markets.

Premium beef cow at 115p/kg was a 741kg South Devon from Messrs. W.S. Gay & Son of St. Allen with Friesians to 97p/kg (719kg) for Mr. N. Warren of Withiel, both bought by David Ellis of Lelant.

A tonne+ Charolais cull bull from Mr. T.R. Nicholas of Gweek realised 106p/kg and £1,125, also to David Ellis.

Store cattle numbers are slowly building up towards the peak Autumn period when cattle start to be housed.

Trade remains similar to recent weeks.

Top price of the day was £860 for a pair of 18mo Devon x Limousin steers from Mr. J.R. Julyan of Tresillian with a younger pair of Aberdeen Angus crosses next in line at £805 for Mr. J. Symons of Threemilestone.

A super bunch of four Simmental crosses from Messrs. G.E.R. & C.E.R. James of Rosudgeon sold well at £600.

On the heifer side, again mostly younger cattle with top prices for natives including £725 for Aberdeen Angus and £710 for Herefords.

Two further Limousin x bulls at £225 for Messrs. S.M. & J. Blee of St. Martin and Mr. M.J. Brown of Scorrier with a 3 week old youngster and whose Limousin x heifer hit £205.

A smart pair of Aberdeen Angus x heifers from Mr. C.M. Phillips of St. Mawes sold well at £195.
