A shed and 100 bales of hay were destroyed after a field fire spread.

Dozens of firefighters were sent to the blaze in Townsend Road, Swanage, at around 5.40pm yesterday.

A fire in the field had spread to an agricultural shed and 100 bales of hay nearby.

Crews from Swanage, Wareham, Hamworthy and Poole attended and tackled the blaze for about an hour and 20 minutes.

A Swanage fire station spokesman said: "Crews worked hard with a shortage of water to stop it spreading further."

Crews returned to the scene this morning for an inspection and reported that everything was fine.

It is unclear what started the fire but police were not called to the scene and it has been recorded as accidental.
