Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 69 prime cattle met a keener trade. 14 buyers around the ring pushed trade on, despite reports of further drops in deadweight quotes.

Top was 188.5ppk for a red Limousin heifer from PJ Hobbs, Bilbrook, who sold Charolais suckler bred heifers at 179.5ppk on five occasions. Further better Limousin heifers at 187.5 and 181ppk from RW Fry, Long Sutton and 180ppk from JF Walker & Partners, North Petherton.

Steers peaked at 178ppk for an adlib fed Limousin (16m) from MJ Tuckett & Partners, Ide, who sold others at 175.5 and 173ppk. Charolais steers at 177ppk from RA Reed, Gatcombe and 175.5 and 175ppk from RJ Smith, Wellington.

Native steers to 171ppk for a Hereford from RW Darby, Bridgwater.

Steers sold to £1139 for a South Devon from Brightley Farms, Umberleigh.

Heifers sold to the day’s top of £1,140.30 for a Limousin from RW Fry, Long Sutton.

48 Barren cows and cull stock bulls. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a short entry of 48 cull cows met a similar trade. Top was 129.5ppk for a well fleshed non assured Limousin cow from JC & JCM Carroll, Street. Meat Charolais cows at 126.5 (NA) and 118.5ppk (NA) from MJ Higgins, Beaminster and 125.5ppk (FA) from G Vining, Axbridge. Blue cow at 120.5ppk (FA) from JF Walker & Partners, North Petherton. Native cows to 127.5ppk (FA) and 113.5ppk (FA) from MGN West, Combe Martin.

Sucklers sold to £1,057.54 for a Charolais from MJ Higgins, who sold another at £1,036.88. Further Charolais at £1,030.36 from G Vining, Axbridge.

Dairy breeds rose to 115.5ppk for a good meat Holstein from R & J Jones & Son, Stogursey, who sold another at 110.5ppk. Further best meat black and whites at 114.5ppk (HF) MM & EH Lucas, Puckington; 112.5ppk (HF) J & D Tilbee, Wedmore and 111.5ppk (FRI) Ireosa Ltd, Winterbourne Abbas.

Dairy breeds sold to the day’s top of £1,116.05 for a boat Holstein (1010kg) from R & J Jones & Son, who sold others at £981.75 and £921.99. Further Holstein at £980.12 from MM & EH Lucas.

1316 Finished lambs. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report over double the entry forward at 1316 head sold to a more difficult trade for all presented with the heavier lambs most affected. The best sold to 175ppk from C Peach. Others 174 and 173ppk from MW & S Edwards; 172 and 171ppk (x2) from J Harding and 170ppk from RJ, HA & MR Popham (x2) AR Henson (x2) and HJ & HB Case Ltd.

Heavier lambs sold to £98 from C Peach. Others £95 from HJ & HB Case Ltd; £94 from S Bailey; £90 from L & A Maddock & Co; £88 from SR Curtis & Partners and £87.50 from FH & PJ Bailey. Overall average £74.86.
