The company contracted to refurbish St Erth railway station made a generous donation of surplus material to the Helston Railway heritage line.

Dyer and Butler kindly donated various materials including sleepers, buffers stops and the original platform coping from St Erth station.

Last Thursday a number of employees of the company visited Helston Railway for a formal handover of the materials, which were transported from St Erth to Prospidnick by Macsalvors.

The chairman of Helston Railway took a few minutes away from his steam engine driving duties to formally accept the donations from Graham Marsland of Dyer and Butler.

Also in attendance was Steve Livermore, projects manager for GWR, Stephen Jones, senior asset engineer from Network Rail, Caterina Durston and Paul Walch, Network Rail project managers, and John Hartley and Paul Duke, both directors of Helston Railway.

After the formalities had been completed, everyone proceeded to the station and went on a steam-hauled train ride to Truthall Halt.

Helston Railway expressed a huge thanks to all concerned in making it a very memorable day.
