Firefighters have battled a blaze in a grain silo at a farm in Piddlehinton, writes Ellie Haslin.
The silo was believed to contain around 30 tonnes of grain according to the fire service. Crews from Dorchester, Weymouth and Yeovil attended the fire which broke out on the morning of Friday, August 9.
A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "We were called around nine this morning to a farm in Piddlehinton following reports of a fire in a grain drier. The silo contained approximately thirty tonnes of grain.
"Two crews from Dorchester, one aerial platform crew from Weymouth and a water carrier from Yeovil attended.
"The fire was extinguished using a hose reel jet and an aqua backpack to allow firefighters to get closer to the flames.
"The fire was out by 12.30pm - what takes time is separating the unaffected grain. It is still too early to pinpoint how much of the grain was destroyed."
