67 Prime and untested forward cattle

(54) UTM & (13) OTM Prime cattle. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report another short entry of prime cattle met a good trade for the best.

Top was 194.5ppk for a very smart red Limousin heifer from CJM Shackleton, Wiveliscombe. Further best heifers at 193.5ppk for a Blue from SER Hunt, Kilve and 189.5 and 186.5ppk for red Limousins from J & S Vinnicombe & Son, Ottery St Mary.

Steers rose to 191ppk for a best type red Limousin from J & S Vinnicombe & Son, who sold another at 190.5ppk. Angus at 178ppk from Habberfield Bros, North Newton. Hereford at 172.5ppk from JD Burrough, Weston.

Steers sold to £1,268.45 for a Charolais from HWC & JM Butler, Cambridge Batch. Others to £1,237.50 (OTM) for an AA from AG Hicks & Sons and £1,226.82 for a Limousin from J & S Vinnicombe.

Heifers sold to £1,206.66 for a Limousin from J & S Vinnicombe & Son. Charolais at £1,200.98 from HWC & JM Butler.

51 Barren cows and cull stock bulls. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an insufficient entry of barren cows met a very buoyant trade. Manufacturing cow beef is in demand.

A good meat Hereford from Hutton & Sons, Bristol topped at 147.5ppk, who sold another at 137.5ppk. Limousin cow at 141.5ppk from J Edgar, Withypool.

Sucklers sold to £991.97 for an Angus from LC Curtis, Beaminster.

Dairy breeds on fire to 137.5ppk for a grand 887kg Holstein from Huntham Farm Ltd, Stoke St Gregory, who sold another best meat cow at 132.5ppk. A superb run of Holsteins at 133.5, 131.5, 130.5, 128.5, 127.5, 126.5, 125.5, 124.5 (x2) and 123.5ppk from EV Tranmer & Sons, Claverham. Friesians to 122.5ppk from CJ Mear & Son, Chard.

Cows sold to £1,219.63 for a Holstein from Huntham Farm Ltd, who sold another at £1,110.35. Further Holsteins at £990.68, £981.23, £953.96, £942.31 and £917.87. More wanted.

953 Finished lambs. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report more lambs forward at 953 head sold to a similar firm trade for the non Qurbani lambs, but to a flying trade for the lambs that qualified for the festival. The best were 200ppk plus and sold to 207ppk (x2) from Vigar & Son. Others 205, 202 and 201ppk from MW & S Edwards; 204ppk from CJM Shackleton; 203ppk from CHJ Atwell & Sons; 202 and 201ppk (x2) from D Hutchings; 202ppk from J Sprake & Partners Ltd and 201ppk from IJ Williams (x2) and RW Norton.
