(45) UTM & (19) OTM Prime Cattle. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a small entry of 64 prime cattle met a good trade for the best. Lower end cattle are meeting difficult trading conditions because the European Market for manufacturing clean beef is being taken by ROI beef (EU27 to EU27), whereas it was previously supplied at this time of year by the UK.

Top was 198ppk for a near perfect red Limousin heifer (596kg, 16m) from SER Hunt, Kilve. Similar red Limousin heifer at 192.5ppk (632kg, 23m) from CJM Shackleton, Wiveliscombe. Further more commercial heifers at 175.5ppk, Limousin, SER Hunt again; 170ppk, South Devon, Vale Farm Partnership and 170ppk, Charolais, RJS Winslade & Son, Moorland.

Steers sold to 169.5ppk for a Blonde from RJ Smith, Wellington, who sold a Charolais for 167ppk. Blue steers to 165.5ppk twice from both JM Cload & Partners, Westport and DJ Hill & Partners, Wellington.

Steers sold to £1258.36, £1207.77, £1152.39 and £1129.59 from JM Cload & Partners.

Heifers sold to £1216.60 for a Limousin from CJM Shackleton. Further Limousin from SER Hunt at £1180.08. Heavy weight Charolais at £1177.80 and £1142.93 from RM Sparks & Sons, Wellington.

44 Barren cows and cull stock bulls. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a very short entry of 44 cull cows met a good trade for meat but selective for those lacking any flesh whatsoever.

Top was 126.5ppk for a grand 785kg Holstien from JR Dill & Son, Cheddon Fitzpaine, who sold others at 119.5 (818kg) and 114.5ppk (886kg). Further meat Holstiens at 119.5 and 112.5ppk PD & JL Biss, Kingweston; 114.5ppk LE Miller & Son, Bridgwater and 114.5ppk, DJ Hill & Partners, Wellington.

Black and white cows to £1061.16 from PD & JL Biss. Others £1014.47 from JR Dill & Son.

Sucklers sold to 120.5ppk for a feeding Saler from PA Huxtable, Challacombe. Heavier half meat cow at 119.5ppk for a Limousin to JA & G Aldworth, Madford.

Sucklers sold to £830.53 for the 695kg Limousin from JA & G Aldworth.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report fewer forward at 1039 head, but the continuing hot weather on the Continent has limited the export sales and led to an even more difficult trade for all presented. The best sold to 193ppk from JE & LP Reason; 184 and 180ppk from J Sprake & Partners Ltd; 184ppk from RC Stock; 182ppk from ML & EE Edwards; 181ppk from R & K Dorpman; 178ppk from TC & SCI Pain and GN Loder and 177ppk from D Hunt.

Heavier lambs sold to £90 x3, £89 x2 and £85 from J Sprake & Partners Ltd; £89 from RW Brunt; £87 from DJ & DA Bloyce and £85 x2 from JE & LP Reason. Overall average £73.46.
