Good progress is being made with a barn fire on July 19 in Wadebridge Road, Bodmin says Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service.

The service reported that the incident will soon be scaling down further after the evening saw 1000 bales of hay "well alight".

After receiving a total of 19 emergency calls, the Critical Control Centre mobilised to a barn fire on Wadebridge Road, Bodmin at 19:17 on the evening of July 18.

The main barn measures approximately 80 metres by 40 metres and consists of five bays on which crews used hosereel jets to try and prevent the fire from spreading further.

The service reported: "After spending seven hours on scene, crews are making good progress. The incident has now been scaled back to five appliances, with the other special appliances remaining on scene.

"Critical Control is in the process of sorting further crews to attend as relief to firefighters currently in attendance at the scene of the incident."

During the night there were seven appliances, four wholetime officers, three water carriers, one aerial ladder platform and one high volume pump in attendance from Bodmin, Wadebridge, Lostwithiel, Padstow, Delabole, Liskeard and Newquay, with a crew from Devon also on scene.

In total, there are approximately 60 firefighters on scene at this time.

All persons are accounted for.

Crews request that if you live in the area, please keep windows and doors closed for the duration of the fire while they bring it under control.

Three roads in the surrounding area are closed at this time and are expected to be for the foreseeable future due to crews requiring access and space to work from. The service asks that drivers try to avoid the immediate vicinity if possible.
