Bumper crowds attended Stithians Show with a turnout that was unprecedented on Monday.

The show celebrated 185 years this year and the hard working volunteers were rewarded with a turnout that meant they had to execute contingency plans in order to provide additional car parking for the 13,000 visitors that attended the show.

With so many people attending this traditional agricultural event, the show committee, for the first time in history, made the decision to keep the show open longer by laying on extra entertainment.

Traders were persuaded to stay open for an extra hour and exhibitors to kept their animals on the showground until later in the day to stagger departure times.

The show was buzzing throughout the day with visitors and exhibitors enjoying the perfect show weather.

As the sun shone, the very best of Cornish agriculture was celebrated with competitions from vibrant vegetables and delicious cakes to top class cattle and the most magnificent array of poultry.

The younger visitors were given a treat with the show’s most recent innovation of a Sunflower Trail which offers interactive learning opportunites for children with rosettes to be won at the end of the day.

Portreath Gig Rowing Club, who are regular supporters of the show’s Sunflower Trail, reported that they had so many people visit their stand, they are going to arrange for extra rowing machines for the children to try next year.

The show returns next year on Monday, July 13.
