ADVERTORIAL

A rare secluded estate with Georgian manor house set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park is up for sale.

Stags Farm Agency is delighted to announce that it has been instructed to sell the Holwell Manor Estate situated on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, near Tavistock.

Holwell Manor is believed to be sited on a medieval manor which was the home of the Glanville Family from 1400 to 1790 when Julius Glanville sold the estate to John Moore Knighton of Grenofen. Later, John Taylor, a leading figure in the British Association for Science, also lived at Holwell Manor and was responsible for the design of the famous Tavistock Canal to Morwellham to provide access for the expanding local mining activities in the early 1800s.

Today, the handsome Georgian manor house with many period features occupies a fine and private position with a southerly aspect surrounded by its own grounds in a parkland setting. The ten bedroom Georgian manor house subject to a project of restoration and renovation has potential to become a stately family home either as one dwelling or divided to retain the use of the annexe section. The Georgian style manor is believed to be constructed of local limestone with colour washed elevations under a slate roof. Throughout the property there are many period features including fine mahogany doors, ornamental plaster cornices, a stained glass window and large bay windows overlooking the gardens.

Situated at the entrance to Holwell Manor Estate is a gate lodge, which provides further accommodation, while a range of traditional farm buildings situated at the centre of the holding provide opportunities for diversification, additional accommodation subject to planning, or continued use for agricultural or equestrian purposes.

The land, amounting in all to approximately 112 acres, surrounds the property and provides privacy and protection while the woodland and stream provide amenity, conservation and sporting appeal. The Holwell Manor Estate is on the doorstep of Whitchurch Down and the open moor, an area renowned for its dramatic scenery, granite tors and wide open spaces ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding.

The Holwell Manor Estate is being offered for sale with a guide price in excess of £1.6M.
