The market report from Sedgemoor Auction Centre for Saturday, 22 June is as follows. The total stock was 2976 head.

A very buoyant dairy trade over £2000 for the best.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report yet another consistent entry of smart heifers continued the return to £2000 for the very best, when heifers topped at £2040 for Withamhall Fontaine Hester 3 consigned by JG Morgan and £2020 for the commercial heifer from M & K Churchill & Son. Other heifers at £1950 x2 from RH Webb and MC Powell, £1920 A Ractliffe and £1900 SFB Agricultural Services and Snook Ltd, when 22 sold over £1700.

A day which included 15 crossbreds and Jerseys produced Brown Swiss cross heifers to £1700 from A Ractliffe and Jersey cross heifers to £1580 from RH Webb. Only a handful of cows on offer sold to £1770 for Snook Ltd.

An entry of 308 store lambs sold to another bouyant trade to a top of £87 from F & S Webber. Others to £86.50 and £85 from A Lawler; £84 from T Woollacott; £83.50 from ST Matthews; £82 from A Thomas; £80 from KN Groves; £78.50 from B Porter and £77.50 from TK Farms. The late season hoggs now being put into the grazing ewes the overall average for store lambs rose to £65.57.

Cull Ewes & Rams (861)

A smaller entry of 861 cull ewes and rams sold to a stronger trade generally, when even the fat ewes were just a little brighter. Best continental ewes to £125 from KN Groves. Other best ewes to £113 from V Clarke; £106.50 (x2) from G Legg; £106 from GJ Cottrell and FWJ Parris; £105 from J & JM Hurford and £99 from A Lawler and R Goodman.

A smaller entry of 131 ewes with 161 lambs at foot, which generally lacked real quality, sold to a steadier trade. Top price of £158 went to doubles from NG Westcott (£52.67/life). Other doubles to £150 (£50/life) and £148 (£49.33/life) from AC & D Grossey. Best singles to £122 (£61/life) and £118 (£59/life) from NG Westcott. TR Clements & Son sold 4 ewes with 5 lambs at £142 (£63.11/life) and M Sealey sold 17 ewes with 22 lambs at foot at £135 (£58/84/life). Overall average £47.66/life.

Breeding Ewes (25)

A small entry of 25 breeding ewes saw 2T Suffolk x ewes top at £115 from D Taylor.

Goats (33)

A small entry of 33 goats saw nanny double couples top at £128 (£42.67/life) from AE Dicks. A large billy from the same Vendor sold at £134, when other goats sold to £88 from C Ainge and £74 from DR Selby. Overall average £74.15.

Weaners (21)

Only 21 weaners sold to a good trade but not as bouyant as the last sale, due to many farmer buyers being absent on silaging duties. Top call was £63 for a pen from AA House & Son.

Cull Sows & Boars (17)

A reasonable entry of 17 cull sows and boars sold to an easier trade. Best of the boars sold to £200 from E Hallam. Others to £175 from DR Hutchings. No top sows but the best sold to £140 from DR Hutchings and £130 from AP & PC Rose.

Forward Stores (128)

A very good entry of forward stores, when a large proportion of lightweight types were on offer. Best of the entry sold to £136 from MT Churchill. Others to £130 and £128 from T Stone. Lightweight pigs generally £80-£100.
