63 Prime and untested forward cattle

(51) UTM & (12) OTM Prime cattle. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a very similar entry in terms of number of prime cattle at 63 head, met a brighter trade. Some smart cattle on offer particularly on the heifer side of the sale.

Top was 204.5ppk for a well fleshed Limousin cross Blue heifer (15m & FA) from JF Walker & Partners, North Petherton, who sold others at 202.5 and 200.5ppk. 200.5ppk was also achieved by PJ Hobbs, Minehead for a Limousin suckler bred heifer, who’s further Limousins sold at 194.5 and 184.5ppk and Charolais cross at 184.5ppk (x4) and 181.5ppk. 195.5ppk was achieved by JM Darby, Bishops Lydeard with a lightweight Limousin heifer. Smart red Limousin heifer at 194.5ppk from SER Hunt, Kilve who sold a well fleshed Blue at 180.5ppk. Good Charolais heifer at 190.5ppk from BA Richards, Williton. Shapely Limousin at 190ppk from AAB Rowe & Son, Chilton Trinity, who also sold Blue heifers at 184.5 and 182.5ppk. Further Charolais heifers at 188.5 and 181.5ppk from MP & DM Hine, Chard.

Steers sold to 180.5ppk from BA Richards again, who sold another at 179.5ppk. Dairy bred Limousin steers at 178.5ppk from W Johnson & Son, Dalwood and 177.5ppk from GDW Isaac & Son, Broadhembury. Suckler bred Angus steers with named sires at 177.5 and 174.5ppk from PRS & EB Scott, Axbridge.

Steers sold to £1,256.40 for a 720kg Limousin from W Johnson & Son, who sold another at £1,170.96. Charolais steers at £1,221.99, £1,170.34 and £1,162.76 from BA Richards. Dairy bred Blue steer at £1,185.38 from GH Cavill & Sons, Shoreditch.

Heifers sold to a tremendous £1,207.01 for a Limousin from JF Walker & Partners, who sold others at £1,196.78 and £1,169.74. Blue heifer from AAB Rowe & Son at £1,206.33.

97 Barren cows and cull stock bulls. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a much increased entry of cull stock at 97 head met a continuing good trade. Top was a young Charolais slip at 164.5ppk from RE Webber, Stringston. Young type Blue cows at 131.5 and 130.5ppk from JC Bendle, Clayhidon. Feeding South Devon at 127.5ppk from Hill & Johnstone, Culmead. Well finished Devons at 125.5 and 124.5ppk from CG & CR Rabbetts, Bridport. Good Angus at 123.5ppk from WC & EM Fewings, Over Stowey.

Sucklers sold to £1,003.45 for the Charolais from RE Webber. Devon at £967.37 from CG & CR Rabbetts. South Devon at £958.80 from Hill & Johnstone.

Dairy breeds sold to 129.5ppk for an outstanding Holstein from RF & BA Larcombe, Chardstock. Good meat Friesians at 122.5, 121.5 and 116.5ppk from AJ Gay & Sons Ltd, East Harptree. Further well fleshed Holsteins at 117.5, 116.5 (x2) from GH Cavill & Sons, Shoreditch; 116.5ppk again, DJ Hill & Partners, Wellington and 115.5ppk on three occasions from RJ Tucker & Sons, Othery, Newley Farm, Taunton and MJ & JR Dyer & Son, Whitestaunton. Steakers 95 to 110ppk.

Dairy breeds sold to £966.07 (746kg) for a Holstein from RF & BA Larcombe. Further fleshed Holsteins at £897.44 (777kg) MJ & JR Dyer & Son; £891.23 (765kg) GH Cavill & Sons; £890.63 (806kg) RJ Tucker & Sons and £887.04 (768kg) Newley Farm.

1222 Finished lambs. Auctioneers comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report last week’s poor weather certainly had an effect on the entry in terms of both numbers and finish, when a smaller entry of 1196 overall much leaner/lighter lambs were presented .

Trade was firmer, particularly for the heavier/well covered types. The best sold to 218ppk from Thornhill Farm (Dorset) Ltd and E Bright. Others 217 and 215ppk from GB & AE Pearce; 216ppk from TR Paull and A Raines; 215 and 214ppk from RJ Rood & Son; 215ppk from MJ Keate and 214ppk from HM & KI Stowell & Son, RW Biss and NF Newman.

Heavier lambs sold to £108 and £100 from G Vining. Others £101 from K Gribble; £100.50 and £98.50 from D Hutchings; £100, £99 and £98 from KC & JM Cooke; £98.50 from R Langford and £98 from NM & CL Norris, RR Creed & Son and E Bright. Overall average £86.96.

A small entry of hoggs sold to £80 and 151ppk from GJ & PC Perry.
