The South West region is home to over a third of England’s breeding dairy cows, dairy holdings and producers.

In figures taken from the 2015 milk year, the region produced over three billion litres of milk, almost a quarter of total UK milk production, with Devon producing the largest volume, at 1,040,445,192 litres.

At South West Farmer we offer a chance to celebrate all the hard work being put in across the region with our Dairy Farmer of the Year Award (sponsored by Greenslade Taylor Hunt).

Last year’s winners were Richard and Sally Reed from Kentisbeare near Cullompton, who won two awards for their great achievements and real sense of family working together. Alongside Dairy Farmer of the Year they won Family Farm of the Year (sponsored by Mole Valley) for their consistent achievements at Aller House Farm.

Nominations for this year’s Awards are open, but the June 30 deadline is fast approaching, so if you know a hard-working farmer that you think needs to be recognised, get your nominations in now.
