A ram lamb from Adrian Rundles’ Treworthal flock in Cubert, Newquay took a 500 mile journey to top the The Hampshire Down Sheep Breeders’ Association sale of rams and females at Stirling on May 22 at 1100gns.
This son of Treworthal Savea took the mammoth journey with a consignment of three other lambs to win overall champion on the day and was knocked down to S & A Moores’ Ballhall flock in Brechin, Angus.
Rundles’ Treworthal flock also took the next best price for a ram lamb at 500gns which was knocked down to D & K Milnes’ Longcroft flock in Insch, Aberdeenshire, again by Treworthal Savea out of a home-bred ewe.
And to continue to Cornish sweep, Rundles also took Reserve Champion on the day with a ewe lamb which sold for 500gns to G & J Galbraith in Graylen flock, Kendal, Cumbria.
With lively interest at the ringside, both clearance rates and averages were up on last year with buyers happy to bid on quality lots.
Averages:
Ram lambs £502
Shearling rams £472
Ewe lambs £386
Shearling ewes £425
