Sculptors, botanical illustrators, potters and painters are among those who will throw open their studio doors to stage an art trail.

From Lamorna to Launceston and Mousehole to Mawnan Smith – almost 300 participants will unleash their creativity this week, in the 15th year of the initiative.

Karen Raymond, Open Studios Cornwall project manager, said: “Whether creating work that responds to Cornwall – the interplay between shadow and sunlight; the textures of the tideline and the scars of its industrial past – or to the transience of life and the potency of memory, the county’s creatives are ready to greet you.”

The trails will take place in anything from refurbished fish cellars and converted cow sheds to reading rooms and Sunday Schools, shepherd’s huts and medieval manors.

There is no end to the ingenuity of the makers in terms of the materials they use to express themselves alongside the more traditional clay, yarn and paint.

Workshops covering a range of topics – from raku firing and colour mixing to felt making and screen printing – present opportunities to acquire new skills.

Karen added: “Open Studios Cornwall offers ancient arts, contemporary crafts, the eccentric, the familiar and the profound.

"It pushes us to explore the unexplored both in relation to the county’s geography and the diversity of artistic practice within it so why not grab a guide, follow the orange Os, navigate Cornwall’s hidden creeks and coves, purchase original work and celebrate the county’s creative community?”

To curate your own art trail, obtain a copy of the Open Studios Cornwall 2019 guide, which is available from hundreds of locations across Cornwall or by calling 01209 313200.

Alternatively, you can bookmark openstudioscornwall.co.uk on your mobile and navigate the studios with the help of Google Maps.

Each venue is clearly indicated by an orange O so watch out for them as you travel around.

The guide is divided into sections, with artists listed geographically then alphabetically.

You can either plan to visit a particular location and look up artists who are exhibiting in that area or visit a particular artist and find out who else is in their neighbourhood.
