A new trophy for the cattle section at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show has been presented in memory of Phil Eustice.

Phil’s wife, Sally, and son, Ben, presented The Trevowah Challenge Cup which will be awarded to the Best Native Beef Animal at the June to remember the farmer from Crantock near Newquay, who was tragically killed in an accident last year.

Phil was a regular among the cattle exhibitors at the Royal Cornwall Show with his Trevowah herd of pedigree South Devon cattle.

His proudest achievement came at the 2013 Royal Cornwall when he won the breed title and went on to win the prestigious supreme interbreed championship with his bull, Hopton Maximus 2.

Family and friends joined forces to successfully raise £7,500 that has enabled the purchase of the cup and a donation to the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.

Christopher Riddle, Royal Cornwall Show secretary said: “This new cup is the perfect way to remember Phil and credit must go to his family, friends and those from the cattle showing community who raised the funds to make it possible.

“We look forward to seeing who will be the first winner of this fine piece of silverware at this year’s show.”

The South Devon classes at the Royal Cornwall Show, which takes place on June 6, 7 and 8 will be hotly contested with a total of 72 entries received from exhibitors.
