1235 Store Cattle and Grazing Cows

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a massive entry of 1235 store cattle, part of 1722 with the stirks, weekly sucklers and grazing cows, which met a firm trade, although not as spectacular as last week’s, which was primarily due to the reduction in general quality on offer. Less strong forward cattle on offer and more smalls. Forward and better type cattle just as dear.

A mamouth entry of 2109 cull ewes and rams sold to a similar trade, despite the copious numbers forward. The strong continental ewes still met a fierce demand, when the best sold to £145 from T Newth. A tighter entry of couples, when 284 ewes with 421 lambs were forward. Trade firmed for the best, when the second and third quality sold at the same levels. Top call was £202 (£67.33/life) for a double from AA & JM Churchill & Son. Others to £201 (£68.43/life) for 16 ewes with 31 lambs from D Lukins; £200 (£66.67/life) from J Haskell; £190 (£68.61/life) for 13 ewes with 23 lambs again from D Lukins and the same price was achieved by Beeswax Dyson Farming for their 19 ewes and 28 lambs. Orphan Lambs (57)

A few less forward this week sold to a better trade. Top price went to JA & YJ Hopkins who sold two cracking lambs to £28. PH & ME Buckingham & Son also had a good run and sold 10 lambs to £25. Overall average was £17.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report fewer pigs forward – good strong trade for all classes. Again another significant jump in cull sow prices.

Weaners (10)

Small entry the youngest 10 w/o Gloucester Old Spots from R Hayes to £38 and £32. Older weaners from J Morris to £52.

Cull Sows & Boars (25)

Another good entry with many quality pigs forward. Tremendous competitive bidding. Top of the day £236 from WA Williams and the best of a good run from Mitchell Partners to £233. Half of the entry made over £150 and the overall average attained £64.65.

Cull boars to £196 from DW & AE Enticott and £148 from BS Newth.

Breeders (2)

Gilts to £128 from M Zerk and boar £126 from M Ogborne.

Small entry – again another good trade. The best sold to £138 from MJ Stevens and £127 from J & R Hopkins.
