The British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT), the UK’s leading hen rehoming charity, is asking kind-hearted members of the public to give a hen a home this Easter.

At around 18 months old, when these hard-working hens have reached the end of their commercial laying life, the BHWT steps in to save them from slaughter.

The charity then rehomes as many of these hens as possible with new loving families across the United Kingdom.

The BHWT finds new homes for over 50,000 hens annually.

The charity is holding a hen rehoming day on Easter Sunday, 21 April in Redruth, Cornwall, where 240 hens will be waiting to begin their free-range retirement.

Eggs are a symbol of hope and new beginnings and are synonymous with Easter. The charity is calling on members of the public to make a hen happy this holiday season.

Jane Howorth, founder of the BHWT, said: "These hens have been saved from slaughter and thanks to the kindness of local people, enjoy a free-range retirement.

"They really do make lovely pets, forming their own lovely characters and becoming beloved members of the household. The bonus of course is the possibility of fresh eggs in the morning.

"We still have 92 hens looking for homes on Easter Sunday, 21 April, so if you can offer some of these little ladies a fresh start, please do get in touch".
