Mudchute Park and Farm has successfully secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for their Rare Breeds Programme. The programme combines the conservation of rare breeds livestock with traditional rural crafts, such as spinning, weaving, dying, blacksmithing and drystone.
The Money will enable the charity to buy in animals of very rare genetic blood lines. They will also bring in rural craft experts to deliver workshops, sharing their knowledge and skills.
Registered charity The Mudchute Association has managed the 32 acre Mudchute Park and Farm since 1977, when it was formed to preserve and develop the area. The charity provides a variety of educational and leisure activities on a London-wide basis.
The project aims to ignite the spark of interest within young people with trips to other rare breed farms, agricultural shows and livestock auctions. It hopes to re-engage them with the rhythm of the farming year and to educate them about the plight of rare and native breeds of livestock.
