In celebration of International Women's Day, South West Farmer are keen to recognise the great achievements by women in farming in the region.

In the South West Farmer 2018 Awards, award for Outstanding Achievement was collected by Rebecca Tonks, the leading director of St Ewe Eggs, following her overseeing an 87 per cent growth in sales for the company over the past 12 months. Young Farmer of the Year Award was picked up by Gemma Smale-Rowland, who farms Glebewin Holsteins near Launceston. Gemma's incredible passion and drive are what set her apart.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Labour Force Survey, women now make up one third of the UK agricultural sector’s workforce, an increase of seven percent over the last decade.

The numbers of women running farms has steadily increased to just over 25,000.

Universities and colleges are also reporting a rise in female students taking agricultural courses. Great news for the future of farming.
