Children’s charity Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) has announced plans for its 10th anniversary Moonlight Memory Walk, which will take place in Falmouth on Saturday, March 30.

The five-mile sponsored walk has historically been a ladies only event, however in celebration of its 10th anniversary this year CHSW, is opening the walk up to men, as well and anyone over the age of 12 can take part.

To ensure as many people as possible can be a part of the event this year, the charity will also be letting people take part virtually. Those unable to make the evening can complete a five-mile walk in their own time and still receive a memory bag, t-shirt and fundraising information and be a part of the memory ceremony by watching through Facebook live on the night.

Kiley Pearce, Events Fundraiser for CHSW said: “This year we would love to get as many people as possible as part of our Moonlight Memory Walk celebrations.

"Whether they are able to be there and walk on the night, do their five-mile walk in their own time and join us for the memory ceremony virtually through facebook or if people simply wish to make a donation in memory of their loved ones. The Moonlight Memory Walk has become iconic in Falmouth over the past 10 years and we hope that this year is a true reflection of the support the walk and CHSW has had over the years.”

The walk sees hundreds gather on The Moor and remember their loved ones, with a poignant memory ceremony and then walk a five-mile circular route around the town in celebration of the lives of friends and family.

For those simply wanting to make a donation to the charity instead of taking part in the walk, this option is also available through the website or by calling Little Harbour children’s hospice on 01726 871800.

Since the Moonlight Memory Walk started back in 2009, the event has raised a staggering £250,000.

Cornwall now has its very own children’s hospice called Little Harbour, which means that children and their families in Cornwall and Plymouth can access short breaks, respite and end of life care, all without travelling further than St Austell.

Those wishing to take part are encouraged to register beforehand online, entry costs just £10 per person which includes a memory candle bag, t shirt, medal and goody bag. Participants are reminded that this is a sponsored event and the registration fee only covers the cost of their participation.

Money raised from the event will help CHSW to continue providing care and support to children needing to use Little Harbour children’s hospice and their families.
