TWO Falmouth-based artists have collaborated with a carpenter to create five bespoke boxes which will be gifted to selected venues in the town.

Edmond Griffith-Jones and Jeremy Beswick have teamed up with Al Henderson to form a project called Contraband, which will provide artists with a venue to show off their works around Falmouth.

Edmond said: “We are the artists who intend to improve things. We are dedicated individuals who, given half a chance, will create art over other activities. We do not paint for tourists, we do something of ourselves for you.

"As curators we value competency and are looking for individual excellence.”

Contraband have selected four artists' works to feature in the first touring exhibition and are offering the opportunity for other artists who may be unknown to them to apply for the final Art Box.

The dimensions for the artwork are: 18ins x 24ins in a portrait dimension. Artwork applications and any questions can be submitted to ed21@talk21.com by February 12.

The project is designed to maximise the opportunity for sales through the different locations.

Each month the featured artworks will be rotated between the five venues exposing each piece to a new set of clientele to both enjoy and purchase.

The first Art Box will be installed at Hillbillys’s bar, High Street, on Tuesday, January 29, closely followed by Chintz, Hand Bar, The Jacobs Ladder Inn and The ‘Front.
