A GAS LEAK beneath a major road in Truro created traffic chaos as the westbound carriageway was closed for repair works.

The lane on the A390 Tresawls Road was closed on Friday and the usually busy area became even more congested.

Paul Taylor, Wales & West Utilities operational manager for Cornwall said yesterday:

"We have been working in the Tresawls Road area of Truro to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"In agreement with Cornwall Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we worked, we closed the westbound lane along Tresawls Road.

"Our engineering team worked as safely and as quickly as possible and have now repaired the leak and fully reopened the road.

"We appreciate the patience of local people while we’ve been working. It was important that we fixed this leak now to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area.

He added: "Wales & West Utilities has a team of more than 900 trained and experienced engineers to help serve the 7.5m people across Wales and the south west of England that rely on its gas emergency and pipeline services.

"If anyone smells gas, thinks they have a gas leak, or suspects carbon monoxide poisoning, they should call us on 0800 111 999 and our engineers will be there to help, day or night."
