New for this year at Dorset County Show is The Fabulous Food & Farming Education Area which will showcase where food food comes from.

The two-day annual show will take place on Saturday September 1 and Sunday September 2 at Dorchester Showground. Over the weekend there are a variety of attractions, livestock, and fun for all the family to celebrate agriculture and rural life in Dorset. There will also be a range of competitive classes, trade stands and demonstrations.

The Fabulous Food & Farming Education Area is a new addition for the 2018 show offering and will feature Tractor Ted, the family favourite educational cartoon character. Tractor Ted has his own dedicated area with child-friendly information and demonstrations to provide visitors with information on the important role farming plays in our lives. Children can also enjoy a Tractor Ted bouncy castle and try their hand at cradling wool into yarn. Families can have a go at kneading dough and making their own bread to show the process wheat goes through to produce a loaf of bread.

Will Hyde, show secretary, explained: “We are proud to bring the new Fabulous Food & Farming Education Area to Dorset County Show. One of Dorchester Agricultural Society’s aims is to promote healthy living by educating people on the vital role agriculture plays in achieving a healthy lifestyle.

“Outside of the show, we run the 1840 Education Fund which pays for school children to visit local farms. This new educational area gives us the chance to showcase the work we do with local schools to ensure children across the county gain further knowledge on agriculture and horticulture.

The fur and feather pavilion is set to be a favourite over the weekend. Visitors will have the chance to see poultry, rabbits and guinea pigs on display and also hold chicks for £1, with all the proceeds going to Dorset County Hospital Charity.

For the first time at Dorchester Showground, camel racing will be the main ring entertainment, provided by Joseph’s Amazing Camels, which have appeared on BBC’s Countryfile. It promises to be a highlight attraction and one not to be missed over the weekend.
