Hen welfare charity, the British Hen Welfare Trust has launched an URGENT APPEAL to find homes for 600 ex-commercial laying hens in the Camelford area today.

These c-lucky hens were saved from slaughter over the weekend and are now being given a second chance at life thanks to the BHWT re-homing initiative. They are being cared for by Michelle Ward, local Coordinator, who is hoping the appeal will encourage kind hearted members of the public to step forward and offer a permanent home to a few of these hens.

Michelle told us: “We have been given a wonderful opportunity to save hundreds of hardworking hens from slaughter, and are now in a race against time to find them all homes before the weekend!”

“Our hens make fantastic pets, they are simple to keep, and you’ll quickly discover there is a whole lot more going on under those feathers than you’d think. Ex-bats are well known for their inquisitive and mischievous characters, and would will make worthwhile addition to any back garden!”

The hens are available for collection immediately, so if you have ever wanted to keep a few backyard hens, and think you and your family would enjoy a delicious supply of fresh laid eggs, then get in touch with the charity today on 01884 860084 or email hens@bhwt.org.uk.
