WESTON-SUPER-MARE 67pts CAMBORNE 17pts

CAMBORNE went out of the Intermediate Cup national competition with a battling display against higher league opponents, Weston-super-Mare.

To their credit, the "Cherry and Whites" honoured their commitment to the competition and the pack competed splendly on what turned out to be a very difficult afternoon.

Trailing 12-3 - with their only points courtesy of a Brett Wakfer penalty - the visitors were ultimately undone by four converted tries from the home side that meant they were almost out-of-sight at the interval, leading by 40 points to three.

Early in the second-half Camborne were rewarded with a seven-pointer following a good passage of play. Scrum half Dean Pascoe's well judged chip forced Weston to concede a line out.

From the line out, hooker Andrew Smith touched down from the resulting catch and drive. Fly half Wakfer converted with a well judged kick.

Despite the industry of flanker Kevin Penrose and skipper David Roberts "Town" went on to concede a further 27 second half points but in injury time the hardworking Wakfer profited from another Pascoe chip to cross for a consolation try that he also converted.
