For the first time, the Schmallenberg virus has been found in goats and alpacas in Britain.
The Animal Health Laboratories Veterinary Agency today reports two instances of the virus in goats in East Sussex, and one case of SBV antibodies in an alpaca in Northamptonshire.
The virus causes deformations in new-born animals. Smallholders are urged to contact AHLVA if their livestock is affected.
