An open day at the LIC (UK) monitor farm at Maristow Estate’s Gnatts Farm, in Milton Combe near Plymouth is to take place.

Farmers across the south west are invited to look at the targets set by local farmers attending events over the past year, as well as those set by the farm staff.

Piers Badnell, LIC Pasture to Profit consultant said: “We’ve been through a whole 12 months at the monitor farm, so can plot progress on key targets such as cow weighing and milk recording. One of the key targets was to manage grazing at the shoulders of the season and it will be interesting to hear from herd manager Sarah Baker how the farm has managed in this spring’s tricky weather conditions.”

Farm manager John Allen will discuss the ongoing development of the business at Gnatts Farm during the event on April 5 2018. The guest speaker will be Joyce Voogt from LIC who will be speaking about how to avoid the tail enders in the calving block and how achievable a nine-week service period is at Maristow.
