THE Mare and Foal Sanctuary will be hosting its annual Horse and Dog Show on Sunday, 11th September at Coombe Park Visitor Centre near Totnes.

The event, which this year will have been running for a quarter of a century, has something for all horse and dog lovers whether watching or competing, and the equine charity is looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors.

Horse classes, which are designed to suit riders of varying levels of ability, will start at 9am and run throughout the day. From show jumping, in-hand and ridden showing classes, to handy pony, hairiest horse and the ‘Thelwell pony’ (pony that looks most like its rider), the schedule is packed.

In keeping with tradition, the Sanctuary’s special Kennel Club-registered dog show will run from 2pm. Open to all breeds and ages of dog, there will be a variety of pedigree and novelty classes available – from the fastest Bonio eater and best fancy dress to dog with the waggiest tail.

Visitor Centre Manager Tracy Gray said: “Our Horse and Dog how is always such an enjoyable day and great fun for everyone. Show spectators are, of course, very welcome at no cost and our café, tack shop and gift shop will be open all day for our guests.

“Visitors will also be able to meet our resident horses and ponies and our friendly staff will be on hand to answer questions and chat about the work of the Sanctuary.

“All profits raised from the competition entries will go towards our continued work rescuing horses and ponies in need and giving them the chance of life that they so deserve.

“We really look forward to seeing lots of smiling faces at this year’s Mare and Foal Sanctuary Show.”
