Entries are now open for this year’s charity ploughing match by Helston and St Keverne Young Farmers’ Club.

Now less than five weeks away, the event will take place on Saturday, September 15 at Lamarth Farm, Gunwalloe by kind permission of Mr R Wallis.

The money raised will go to the two charities the club has chosen to support this year: Cornwall Air Ambulance and the West Cornwall Branch of Parkinson’s UK.

The ploughing is due to start at 9.30am, with all plots openings to be ready for judging at 10.30am. There is a range of ploughing classes, from horse drawn ploughs, to vintage tractors through to the modern tractors and ploughs.

There will also be a domestic tent with open cookery, photography, handicrafts and floristry classes, and as well as the farm produce section that was new to last year. It proved such a success that it will feature once again in this year’s event.

All classes, both domestic and ploughing, are open to everyone to enter.

The afternoon and evening events will include a barbecue, pig roast, tractor pull, clay pigeon shoot and sheaf pitching.

For a schedule to enter, or for more information, call Christina Jenkin on 01326 231327 or Ed Savage on 07779 993469.

Last Thursday the club prepared for their forthcoming It’s a Knockout event taking place this Friday, August 17 at Trewince Farm in St Martin. Competitors and spectators are asked to arrive at 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. Teams of friends or organisations are invited to enter, with people also needed to cheer them along. There will be a barbecue afterwards.

Tomorrow, Thursday, members will be meeting for a beach evening at Church Cove, Gunwalloe at 7.30pm.
