The 2012 Royal Cornwall Show swings into its second day of action today.

A virtually full programme of entertainment will go ahead in the main ring and all the main sections – apart from sheep – which had to be closed yesterday because high winds had affected the marquee – will be up and running.

There is a change to car parking arrangements. Members travelling to the show from the West (Truro etc) will be directed to the car park on the left hand side of the A39, adjacent to the main pedestrian entrance, accessed through the old filling station area.

New arrangements are clearly signposted.

Main ring action includes The Devil’s Horsemen, Ann’s Cottage Polo and The Adrenaline Tour which features daredevil quad bike and motorbike routines.

The strong winds which forced the closure of the sheep section marquee are expected to die down through the day today.

The decision to shut the marquee was described by show secretary Christopher Riddle as “a precautionary measure.”

He said: “It is a large marquee and we didn’t want to risk anything untoward happening.

“This is an isolated event and no other section of the showground has been affected in this way.”

Mr Riddle stressed that no-one had been hurt, there was no physical damage and he expected the sheep to be moved off efficiently and without difficulty this evening.

He added: “This is a great shame, especially given that 2012 is a record year for sheep entries. Happily, most classes have been judged today but judging of the championships, due to be staged on the second day (Friday) will inevitably be lost.”
