YFC Tractor Run’s power ahead in popularity

With three Somerset YFC clubs recently organising successful charity tractor runs over the Christmas season this popular pastime and love of tractors is on the increase within the young farmer’s membership in Somerset.

Frome YFC have now held two successful runs, with the latest on December 10 exceeding entry participation at over 90 tractors despite extreme downpours on the day itself!

Harry Benney, the club chairman, reported that the club raised more than £1030 following this event for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and Wilberry Wonder Pony. No doubt the tractor drivers welcomed the hot food and drink served by members of the club back at Frome showground upon their return.

Kingsbrompton YFC utilised the beautiful countryside of Exmoor for their Christmas tractor run, starting from Lowtrow Cross Inn, Upton. The run was initiated by 19 year old member Kieran Ash in his very first year as a member of the club. 20 tractors enjoyed this carefully planned scenic route which members Jack Norman and Andrew Westcott helped set up.

Kingsbrompton YFC forms part of a strong rural community on Exmoor and the money raised from this event will help provide vital funds to ensure the running of this rural club continues.

Crewkerne YFC are planning their spring tractor run which was very well attended last year by tractors of all makes and models, old and new. The proceeds were kindly donated by the club to liver disease and kidney research.
