The vice president of the National Farmers’ Union is due to attend Stithians Show on Monday to hear first-hand from local farmers about the challenges they are facing.

Adam Quinney said: “I am sure there will be a great deal for us to talk about. No doubt farmers will want to discuss what Defra’s TB eradication programme will mean for Cornish livestock producers, the implications of the latest news about CAP reform, and how we can find ways for improving prospects for the next generation of farmers to get into the industry.

“I always enjoy visiting Cornwall and I’m sure we will have a great day, especially if the sun keeps shining.”

Also joining Mr Quinney and regional director Melanie Squires at the show will be the NFU’s new county advisor for Cornwall, Patrick Aubrey-Fletcher.

Mr Aubrey-Fletcher, a chartered surveyor, joins the NFU from Country Sports South West where he was a development officer. He will be based at the NFU’s office in Liskeard.

Stithians Showground opens at 8am on Monday for one of the largest one-day agricultural shows in the country.
