Shortage of farms maintains values
THERE seems to be a lack of farms appearing on the market across the region which has continued the land market retaining its strength with values rising.
Landowners could be holding back from selling land preferring to wait and assess the full implications the single farm payment on their holdings and the effect of their businesses.
A number of dairy farms have held dispersal sales, but owners have not put their land on the market following those sales.
Bare land is still bouyant with non-farming buyers pushing land values higher, especially for the small acreages.
Last year city bankers, traders and lawyers sent the price of farmland soaring by spending their salaries and bonuses on farms and country estates.
