Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Farm Sales Department were delighted to be back in Dorset for the Dispersal of Mr and Mrs David Jeanes Dairy herd and Machinery following the sale of Factory Farm, Gillingham by joint Auctioneers Woolley and Wallis.
The day started with the sale of farm machinery, vehicles and effects which drew a large crowd to witness the 2008 Case Maxuum 125 that realised £29,700, a 2003 JCB 530.70 plus for £12,700 and the 1992 Case 895 for £4,000.
The dairy herd met a strong demand for fresh milk, with a July calved heifer by Manat and out of a 10,000kg dam topping the day at 2100gns. Other July calvers sold to 2050gns for a second lactation cow and 2000gns for a 4th lactation daughter of Belwood Larky.
Despite the lack of winter food two-year-old Incalf heifers due September to the Aberdeen Angus bull sold to 1300gns for daughters of Megatone. Weaned heifer calves and A Lot heifer calves met considerable demand, selling to 500gns. Four week old heifer calves by Mohoeve Niveau sold for 460gns.
No less than 99 different purchasers who had travelled from as far away as Guernsey and Hereford witnessed the following averages: Cows (inc A lots), £1,171; calved heifers, £1,468; incalf heifers, £1,100; served heifers, £800; maiden heifers, £562; A lot heifer calves, £330
