Holsworthy success
"A wonderful success". This was how south west MEP Neil Parish described the 2007 Holsworthy and Stratton Winter Fair which took place at Holsworthy Livestock Market in Devon by permission of Kivells, auctioneers.
A wonderful entry of over 500 head of stock and produce all competed for over £3,000 prize money and a whole array of cups and silverware. Within the livestock pens Laura Ree of Bristol took the Supreme Championship with an outstanding 18-month steer which was sold to the judge, Mr Mike Alford of Stillmans, Somerset.
In the sheep pens the overall Champion was won by Stuart Clatworthy of Highbridge with a wonderful pen of Beltex X lambs which sold to the judge, Mr. Arthur Cleave of West Devon Meat Ltd in Hatherleigh, Devon.
President of the successful 2007 fair, Geoffrey Cox MP, said: "I was really impressed to see such a wonderful selection of livestock going under the hammer and I congratulate the west country farming community for their strength and determination through what has been a difficult year".
