Renowned flock is dispersed
PHILLIP and Alison Chappell of Great Moor Barn, Pales Farm, Kerswell, Cullompton, have dispersed their breeding ewe flock and sheep equipment.
Robert Venner, partner with Greenslade Taylor Hunt, the auctioneers, said the firm were delighted to receive instructions to sell such a renowned commercial flock.
A large crowd of buyers attended, including representatives of two Young Farmers Clubs looking to secure ewes for spring shows in 2008. Brisk bidding ensued throughout, rising to £69.50 for Suffolk Mule four tooth ewes and £72.00 for pure bred Texel four tooth ewes.
Suffolk Mule six tooth ewes peaked at £66.50, with shearlings at £64.50 across the board.
Home bred Swail Mules sold to £61.50 for four tooths, £58.50 for six tooths and £48.50 for full mouths.
Robert Venner commented: "It was a pleasure to offer such a well bred and genuine flock.
"The older ewes sold especially well, selling up to £66.50 for six tooth Suffolk Mules, which was an excellent trade."
