Dairy cows from Devon sell well
Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a continued strengthening in the dairy trade when they sold Andrew Doble's non-recorded dairy cows at Culmbridge Farm, Hemyock, Devon.
The trade topped at 1,650gns for a March 3 calver by Markwell Nobel that was giving 47.2kgs daily with a scc of 115. She joined 25 other cows purchased by the Mathias's of Pembrokeshire. A Brown Swiss crossed March 3 calver giving 38.2kgs with a scc of 12 sold for 1500gns and travelled to Dorset.
The calved heifers averaged at £1,000 with one by Cartoon and one by T Funkis both giving nearly 30kgs daily, with low cell counts, selling for 1,080gns a piece. The only youngstock was the six 8-11 month old heifers by Silvershade MB Saunders that sold to a top of 500gns.
No less than 47 lots sold for 1,000gns plus, with many potential purchasers leaving empty handed.
Averages: dairy cows £907.85, calved heifers £1,000,yearling heifers £518, Limousin Bull £997.50.
