Call to join in at Fresh Start
FOLLOWING last year's successful launch of an initiative to encourage entrants into farming,
the Dorset Fresh Start Academy
is looking for new members for
next year.
Fresh Start is a ground-breaking industry-led initiative supported
by Defra to encourage entrants
into farming and help established farmers diversify their businesses.
Katherine Sealy, co-ordinator
for the Dorset Fresh Start Academy told South West Farmer: "The
Dorset Fresh Start Academy programme has helped young farmers and new entrants understand more about the
business side of running a farm through its programme of
meetings, which have covered everything from business
plans, organic farming to
Renewable energy on farms and farm tenancies.''
Mark Gould, a dairy farmer from Holnest and member of the 2007 Academy said: "The Academy has been an extremely enjoyable but relaxed and informative way of becoming familiar with the current legislation and at the same time, giving members the confidence to take another step or two closer to managing or tendering for a farm.''
