Robert impresses judges to win award

A SOMERSET farmer's son, Robert Powell, has won a top award following his presentation to the Dairy Crest/NFU scholarship fund judging panel. His cheque for £1,500 was sponsored by Bayer Animal Health and presented by Brian Pocock chairman of the scholarship fund.

Robert, aged 19, comes from the family dairy farm at Blagdon, near Bristol, North Somerset. He is currently studying at the Royal Veterinary College, London, for a BVet Med degree in veterinary medicine, and is very keen to develop his interest in the welfare of dairy cattle.

Robert said: "I am extremely grateful to Bayer for the award this year. It will be used to offset some of my ongoing expenses of living in London and for equipment required for my studies."

Mr Pocock said: "Robert is a determined young person. We were impressed by his depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for dairying and the veterinary profession."

Gaby Pohl, business manager for the livestock sector at Bayer Animal Health, added: "Bayer Animal Health is committed to the UK farming industry and is delighted to support the work of the Dairy Crest/NFU scholarship fund through the provision of this special award."
