Young farmers raise funds for charity
HEAVY rain and a clap of thunder didn't deter 27 members of Whimple and Broadclyst Young Farmer's Club from completing a 12 mile "Sponsored Stretcher Run" to raise money for their chosen charity of the year, The Bystock Residential Home, for young people with learning difficulties.
Dressed in fancy dress as doctors, nurses and even a "Hare" Ambulance, they set off from Pinhoe taking in turns on the stretcher.
They followed their route to Broadclyst then through Rockbeare and onto Strete Raleigh then advanced their way to the finish at Whimple. On the way they managed to collect £71 from very amused passers by! All inclusive £500 was raised for the residents of Bystock.
Whimple and Broadclyst YFC chose this charity in order to help raise funds to buy a new mini bus for the residents. The bus will cater for the residents individual difficulties, so that they are able to go on various outings and trips. Club secretary Becky Hammett said: "It was fantastic that so many members took part, raising lots of money for this very worthy cause. Although the weather was considerably wet, spirits were certainly not dampened and there was a wonderful atmosphere with everyone looking great in their fancy dress costumes."
