All set for Bath and West
Hundreds of attractions covering virtually all interests, occupations and hobbies should guarantee every member of the family an exciting, inspiring and memorable day out at this year's Royal Bath & West Show.
The Show is delighted to announce that the Princess Royal will be attending on Thursday 29th May for a short time.
The famous horse-drawn Chariots of Fire carriage driving stunt display team are the star attraction in the main ring at this year's event, which takes place from May 28-31. A near-endless host of other highlights include a fashion show, a visit from the David Beckham Football Academy, food halls, canoeing, a floral marquee, a miniature railway, a 4x4 course, an eco-zone, falconry displays, bands, woodland crafts, steam engines and classic cars.
Those with a passion for animals and livestock will relish the heavy horses, show jumping, dog show, sheep-shearing, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, cavies, poultry and mice - before making a swift beeline for the honey-making.
Meanwhile, the ever-popular family trail combines fun and education to lead you around the show, and is a great way of ensuring that you don't miss out on any of the excitement!
The Food Halls are bigger, better and more tempting than ever with a variety of produce from the Isle of Man, Devon and Somerset Ciders, Puddings, Pies, Meats and Cheeses galore, Fish, Fudges, Chocolates, Honeys, Jams and much more.
"People who haven't visited the show before sometimes hold back because they have this vision of being dragged around all day by their families, but they're missing out badly because there really is so much for everybody to enjoy," says Martha Harley, head of marketing for the Royal Bath & West of England Society.
"For example, dad can go to the 4x4 course while mum goes to the fashion show. The kids will love the canoeing village, granddad can nip into the cider tent, and everyone can do the family trail together. It's a fantastic day out, and when people do visit us for the first time they often say they never really realised quite how much there is to do and what a huge amount of fun they could have."
The increasingly popular eco-zone will feature a sustainable transport competition in which the number of entries has doubled from 20 last year to nearer 40 this time round. They include a Silver Fox racing car built by the University of London for the 2007 Panasonic World Solar Challenge Race in Australia, solar-powered boat, plus a tractor which runs on rapeseed oil and is being brought to the show by 1979 Formula One motor racing champion Jody Scheckter, who is now an organic farmer!
Visitors to the eco-zone can also pedal away furiously to make their own smoothie on a blender vendor bike!
Sustainable energy will also come under the spotlight on May 28, when a fleet of solar powered vehicles with disabled drivers will arrive at the Show after completing the 120-mile "SolaRola Adventure" journey from London.
Guest stars at the Show will include fashion icon Jeff Banks, who will be present on May 29; BBC TV Homes Under the Hammer' star Martin Roberts, who will be signing copies of his new book on all four days; Star Wars' Chewbacca, alias Peter Mayhew, who will be signing autographs on May 28 & 29; Clarissa Dickson Wright who will be promoting her new book on all four days of the show and Johnny Ball, with the NFU Roadshow.
A major coup is that Apex Circuit Design, the internationally renowned designer of Formula One motor racing tracks, has made its first-ever venture into 4x4 by designing a new course at the Show. The 4x4 course, built by Xtreme Offroad, will enable visitors to drive themselves under instruction or be driven in 4x4 vehicles. The course will test driving skills to the limit and is sure to get the adrenaline pumping. It will also enable various manufacturers to show off the capabilities of their vehicles.
Those who enjoy gentler pursuits may prefer the woodland and wildlife area, where a wonderful range of demonstrations will include thatching, sawmilling, dry stone walling, bushcraft and survival, owls, and hawks, heavy horse displays, coppicing, basket making and wood turning.
Meanwhile, a fine variety of bands including Yeovil Town Band and the Royal Castle Jazz Band can be heard on the Village Green.
