Reward for crop protection campaigner

The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) has elected Crop Protection Association chief executive Dominic Dyer a Fellow of the Society.

The Fellowship was awarded in recognition of the work Dominic has undertaken in the media and with politicians and senior policy makers to highlight the importance of crop protection to food security on a UK and global basis.

“Maintaining adequate food supplies in the face of population growth and climate change is one of this century’s key global challenges,” said Dominic.

“Agricultural productivity must increase to feed a predicted nine billion global population by 2050. Modern crop protection tools will continue to play a vital role, by protecting harvests against crop losses due to pests, diseases and weed competition.

“For too long we have allowed the use of pesticides to be demonised by campaign groups, by the media, and by commercial organisations. Yet without pesticides, global food production would fall by a third, and millions more would starve.”
