Members from the Dorset Young Farmers Club managed to place in two competition at the National Federation of Young Farmers Competition Finals at the Stafford Showground.

The Brainstrust Team, which consists of four members from Beaminster Young Farmers including Lucy Wallbridge, Penny Cross, Megan Edwards and Sam Norman, battled it out with Young Farmers from Pembrokeshire, Shropshire and Lancashire.

It was a close competition and they came away with fourth place.

Later that day Hayley Mills from Gillingham & Shaftesbury YFC represented Dorset YFC and took part in the Situations Vacant Competition, which is a competition that is set up like a job interview and came eighth.

Hayley Mills said: “It was a great experience to be at the Nationals Finals for the weekend and great to share it with other Dorset members.

"The feedback and tips that I was given at the South West Area round in March were useful to help me produce a great personal statement for the competition final and a job in the future."

Sunday July 2 was the National Federation of Young Farmers Sports Competition and Dorset YFC had a junior team from Beaminster all aged between ten and 16 taking part in the Rounder’s competition.

Jade, Laura, Lottie, Libby, Flora, Angus, Archie, Haydon, George and Will battled it out throughout a very hot day and they came away with a very well deserved second place.

Lucy Wallbridge, club secretary for Beaminster YFC, stated: “Reaching the national finals for both Brainstrust and Rounder’s has been a fantastic experience for our members, and has topped off what has been a brilliant year for our club. I am very proud of all of the members that have competed.”

Up next for the club is the cookery competition which will be held at the Dorset County Show over the weekend of September 2, in the Dorset Young Farmers marquee.

Winners of the weekend will then head to The Malvern Autumn Show to face the National Finals.
