Sheep flock health business expands as experienced sheep vet Phillipa Page joins the team

Flock Health Ltd was set up by Fiona Lovatt in 2012, and she now works nationally with sheep farmers, vets, pharmaceutical companies, retailers and processors.

She has successfully introduced the concept of Flock Health Clubs into the sector.

Dr Lovatt said: "Experience has shown us that sheep farmers have not always been enthusiastic about working closely with their vets.

"Some saw cost as a barrier, but often they just did not think their vet was interested enough in their flock.

"Phillipa and I are passionate about working closely with vets and sheep farmers, showing how a close relationship is essential for flock viability.

"We firmly believe in the value of sound advice and investment in robust preventative medicine.

“We know that 32 practices around the country have Flock Health Clubs up and running, but we would really like to know about any others and ask how vets are getting on with the experience, so we have a simple on-line survey to ask them how it is going.

"The survey takes less than two minutes and any vet who partakes is eligible for a free pack of resources to run a Flock Health Club meeting on risk assessments and targeted control of coccidiosis.”

Further veterinary CPD events entitled ‘Invigorate your Flock Health Club’ are planned for this summer.

The events will be interactive and include a highly topical technical session on what the responsible use of antibiotics looks like for sheep vets.

These events will be aimed at vets already running clubs, as well as those who may be thinking about setting one up or simply want to improve their engagement with sheep farmers.

They will run from 12 noon to 5pm at Tiverton on June 29, Swindon on July 10, Penrith on July 13 and Caersws on August 16.
