The NFU and grain co-op Openfield are offering the opportunity to learn more about the cereal supply chain, to meet others involved in the sector and to network.

The second bi-annual Cereals Development Programme is now open to applications from NFU arable members aged 25 to 35-years-old.

Mike Hambly, NFU combinable crops board chairman, said: “We are looking for young members who have an interest in expanding their understanding of the work done by the NFU and the supply chains in which they work. It’s also a chance to identify and engage the potential leaders of tomorrow within the cereal production sector.”

The programme was started last year and the first participants were enthusiastic about their experience.

Joe Greenfield, 2012 participant, said: “The advert was instantly appealing because of the amount of networking opportunities in terms of meeting key people. It’s about learning and integrating with the industry – and I think if you put a lot in you will get a lot out.”

The programme involves committing to nine sessions over five months, starting with an opening dinner with NFU officeholders, and includes a two day trip to Belgium to visit the NFU in Brussels and to tour a local farm. The programme culminates with a dinner with the Minister of State for Agriculture.

Applications will be accepted until midday on Friday August 15. Application forms can be found on the news page of the NFU website – www.nfuonline.com
