Peers vote on Agricultural Wages Board

First published in Farming News

The House of Lords is due to vote today (Weds) on government proposals to abolish the Agricultural Wages Board.

The vote, part of the Department for Business Industry and Skill’s Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill’s report stage, has sparked further debate on the merits of abolishing the body that sets agricultural wages and conditions in England and Wales.

The National Farmers Union says abolition is necessary, but the Unite trade union says the AWB is vital to maintain the rural economy.
