A TRACTOR enthusiast hit the South West to complete a new  challenge in his fight against motor neurone disease (MND).

Scottish Pete Burdass drove his 1949 Ferguson TED20 tractor over 1,200 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End, a journey which has never been completed before by this famous tractor.

Pete crossed the border into England on June 8 and his route took him via Northumberland, Yorkshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Somerset, arriving at Lands End yesterday, with tractors and tractor enthusiasts from across the country joining him in support.

The journey took 12 days and was supported by a team of friends who made sure the almost 80-year-old tractor made it to its destination.

All of Pete’s support team have been chosen as they have all been effected by MND.

Pete was joined on his journey by Ted, his teddy bear mascot which has been characterised from a photograph of Pete’s late grandad, and he has been doing his part by being Pete’s ‘wingman’ over the last year selling raffle tickets for a chance to take him home to a new forever home when the winning ticket will be picked out at random by a celebrity after the journey.

Pete said: ““Its been an epic trip but one that my mum would have totally got behind.

“It’s been hard but the team have been great and we’ve had such great support from loads of people along the way. My wingman and little mascot, Ted, and I have had a great time.

“I’m really chuffed with how  much money we have raised but we need more because every penny will go to the MND Association which supports people with MND and are funding research into finding a cure for this cruel disease.”
