There is a unique opportunity to own a farm shop, café and bistro in the grounds of a castle.

Devon Farm Shop, Café and Bistro sits in the grounds of Powderham Castle in Kenton - and it has come to the market.

The business is set in the grounds of the popular tourist attraction of Powderham Castle which is home to the Earl of Devon. The business trades alongside a selection of boutique, businesses, including a plant centre, clothing, and home furnishings shops.

Owners Tom and Leanne Klinkenberg want to leave it in good hands after growing and improving the business over the past five years.

The Farm shop offers an extensive range of the finest local and regional produce from quality local suppliers and incorporates a butchery counter, delicatessen, off-licence, and gift area, pet supplies, fruit, and vegetables.

Most recently, a small community Post Office has been incorporated into the main serving counter, bringing with it an extra income stream and increased footfall.

There is also a separate Bistro called the Orangery, which offers homemade food to eat in or takeaway together with a range of hot and cold drinks and the popular Devon Cream Tea.

As well as visitors to the castle, the business also benefits from several large festival events held on the estate each year.

Tom said: “We thought we could make something special, and we’ve made quite a lot of changes, all for the better. With our combined turnover now over £1.5million, the hard work is done. It’s all set up for someone to come in and keep rolling.

“It’s a fantastic business. There’s not really anything else like it in the area. There are so many visitors to the castle which really drives our trade, and it seems to get more and more popular each year. It’s a lovely location and the views are outstanding.

“I’ve always thought there was more potential to increase trade too. It’s such a one-of-a-kind business. We want to find someone to care about it as much as we do.”

Devon Farm Shop, Café and Bistro is on the market with Devon-based property agents Charles Darrow with a guide price of £225,000.
