Competitive rabbit showing is due to return to the Royal Cornwall Show, as restrictions placed on competitive showing have been lifted.

Last year show organisers were forced to cancel the section at the event after a new strain of the deadly Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD2) was discovered in the country.

Restrictions were put in place, and coupled with a vaccination program, the spread of the disease has been halted.

Sharon Bresland, honorary secretary of the show's fur section, is please that the rabbits will be returning to Wadebridge on June 8 to 10.

Sharon said: "We know the section was missed last year as we received some lovely messages. We all missed the opportunity and it has been a tough 12 months with the outbreak VHD2.

“We are finally getting the shows back and enjoying showing our stock off to the public as well as competing amongst ourselves.

“We are looking forward to seeing lots of familiar and new faces over the three days visiting the fur section.”

Christopher Riddle, secretary of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, organisers of the Royal Cornwall Show, said: "It is great news that it will be possible for it to be staged once again in June.

“This section is a firm favourite with a large number of our visitors, particularly our younger show-goers.

"We all look forward to seeing the rabbits at the show once again this summer.”
